Ingredients in a whisky sour

A classic whisky sour consists of 3 ingredients: Whisky, Lemon Juice and Sugar. Let’s break down those ingredients.

The Whisky

The classic choice of whisky for a whisky sour is bourbon. But a very popular choice and delicious choice at that, is to use Scotch whisky.

However, you can use any whisky you want. Including Irish Whiskey and Japanese Whiskey which make amazing choices.

The Lemon Juice

This one is pretty self explanatory but you need something sour for a sour cocktail. Lemon is the popular choice as it pairs the best with whisky.

The Sugar

Finally we have the sugar. Sugar syrup will be the easiest to infuse, but you could use a spoon of caster sugar and shake hard.

The optional 3rd ingredient - egg white

One think you’ll notice about a lot of whisky sours is that creamy fluffy texture. You get that by adding an egg white. You can learn more about why we use egg whites in cocktails in this article about cocktail foams.
